On Saturday, May 29, DSA members undertook Part 1 of Finegan Kruckemeyer’s ‘Writing Worlds and Those Within Them’. The session was engaging and inspiring as we were taken on a journey of creative self-discovery and character conception.
Finegan interwove his incredible experiences of professional writing through a range of tasks that enabled even those who felt they would struggle to put pen to paper to leave with two character ideas, at least one world for them to exist in and the beginnings of a self-written monologue.
We learnt how to invent a character, shape them and give them light and shade, as well as find ways to theatrically portray their story in an interesting and non-linear structure.
Workshop participants varied from Drama, English and Creative Arts teachers, to JP Classroom teachers and the activities will be easily transferable for all settings. We are all very much looking forward to Part Two next term!
